This really depends on your politics. If you are a Trump supporter, I suppose you would opt for the full "Lord and Master" role of the High Victorian patriarch.

Married women couldn't own property until the 1870s. They had to promise to "Love and Obey". Men were heads of households. And the age of consent to sex and marriage in Britain had been set at just 12 for centuries.

So far as sex in marriage was concerned, keeping women in ignorance of their capacity for receiving as well as giving pleasure was the proverbial cutting off your nose to spite your face job. Should a woman's only task be to "lie there and think of England", the man's burden was to make love to a bit of a corpse!

"If your soul is more sensitive, there has never been a better time in the West than to be male today"

If your soul is more sensitive, there has never been a better time in the West than to be male today - because you have a chance of relating to an equal. And if your equal promises to love you, then you have access to the greatest love possible (plus she'll know about the reverse cowgirl position).

Women throughout history have married men for reasons of fear, poverty or pregnancy. This does not usually produce the best of relationships.
