A lot of them do it and I know Gareth Barry has long given to various causes. At one point in 2011, he even donated his holiday villa in Spain to the charity Sun And Happiness, which looked after poor and sick children. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s James Milner does a fantastic job with his own foundation, which raises cash for the like of the NSPCC, Help For Heroes and Leukaemia Research by organising glitzy dinners in Manchester with players from both his former club, City and United attending.
The retired players do a lot as well. The other year the former Southampton player, Francis Benali raised a million quid for Cancer Research when he ran 1,000 miles around every Premier League ground in the country. Apparently that included 1,178,937 steps and I hear he has another one planned soon.
